The problem
Public estates are typically recorded across dozens of spreadsheets, legacy systems and departmental silos. Records disagree. Nobody is sure which is current. Decisions about billions of pounds of land, buildings and infrastructure get made on information nobody fully trusts.
The same asset appears three times under three references, with three different areas and no agreed owner.
Without location, an asset register is a list. With it, you can see adjacency, overlap, risk exposure and opportunity.
Disposal, investment and rationalisation choices rest on data that cannot be defended under scrutiny.
What we do
We define scope, engage stakeholders and build the roadmap for registers that are scalable, trusted and accountable from day one — at national level or across a single department's estate. Asset referencing, spatial accuracy, governance and reporting that holds up to audit.
Aligned to ISO 55001 and the ISO 55000 series, with the information management discipline of ISO 19650 underneath it. Strategy that connects the estate to policy outcomes rather than treating it as a maintenance backlog.
Raising the quality of public asset information is the whole game. We apply geospatial standards, metadata, master data management and spatial data infrastructure so that one correction at source fixes every downstream report.
The point of a register is not the register. It is knowing which assets to invest in, which to dispose of, which are exposed to flood or heat, and which are quietly carrying the most risk.
Track record
GeoEnable and the wider GeoEnable Group have advised, trained or delivered standards-based asset and information management work for public bodies and global institutions — including the World Bank, UK Central Government and the Cabinet Office, Transport for London and London Underground, Network Rail, Ordnance Survey and High Speed 1.
A strategic digital property asset register — defining scope, engaging stakeholders and developing a clear roadmap to improve decision-making, strengthen governance and deliver long-term public value across government land and buildings.
“Strong foundations for success.” Chief Data Officer, Cabinet Office
A geospatial asset register linking GIS with IBM Maximo, giving a clear spatial view of assets that improved data accuracy, supported maintenance and operational response, and enabled better long-term investment planning.
Station asset information and facilities management for the infrastructure behind Eurostar — defining scope, roles and capabilities to strengthen governance and reduce whole-life costs across the network.
Why it matters
A spatial register shows which assets sit in flood zones, which serve critical functions, and where a single failure cascades. Resilience planning needs to know where things are, not just that they exist.
Carbon, energy and biodiversity targets only become measurable when tied to real places. Good asset data turns sustainability commitments into something that can be evidenced rather than asserted.
Surplus land identified. Underused buildings rationalised. Co-location opportunities found. The value is usually already there — it is the information that is missing.
This work sits directly alongside the UN Sustainable Development Goals — particularly those on sustainable cities and communities, industry, innovation and infrastructure, and responsible consumption. Better public asset information is not an administrative tidy-up. It is how a government knows whether it is meeting those commitments.
Whether you are standing up a national register or trying to make sense of one department's estate, the first step is the same: understand the information you already hold.

We help clients improve infrastructure and property asset management, as well as projects, using geospatial insight and digital tools. Through GIS, location intelligence, digital twins, AI and systems thinking, we enable better decisions and deliver real-world outcomes.

We are BSI Associate Consultants, certified in ISO 19650, ISO 55000, and experienced across ISO 19100, 27001, 9001, 8000, and the EU INSPIRE Directive.
